Thanks...Appreciation...Gratitude

Thank you. I appreciate you. I am grateful for you.

These are 3 short sentences that aren't spoken enough. I understand many people say thank you, but do they mean it or is it just a "knee jerk" response? And what about the other two sentences? How often do you say them to someone in your life?

"I appreciate you." Wow! What a powerful little sentence. Imagine what that would feel like if someone said that to you. "I appreciate you." You can even stretch the sentence out and make it more specific. "I appreciate you for cooking dinner tonight." What is so hard about that? And why shouldn't we appreciate the efforts the "cook" put into making the dinner. Why should these efforts be ignored? They shouldn't.

"I am grateful for you." Now this takes the appreciation to another level. You are really showing someone that you care and are very happy that they are in your life. Imagine how this would feel if someone said this to you. "I am grateful that you are in my life." I'll bet that it would put you in a good mood. You don't just have to be grateful for the people that are in your life; you can be grateful for the possessions that you own, for acts people performed today, for the beautiful day, etc.

I am going to put a challenge to you. For the next 21 days I want you to share with people your gratitude for what they do for you AND I want you to end your day by sharing what you are grateful for that happened that day. You can share this with your significant other, your child(ren), your parent(s), God, or whomever you believe in. After these 21 days I am going to bet that you are happier and the people you share you gratitude with will be happier too.

Around my house we make a point of letting each other know during the day when we appreciate something they did; whether it is cooking, doing the dishes, taking out the trash, etc. And at night we always share what we were grateful for that day. It could be the beautiful weather while we were golfing. It could be for taking time to listen to us when we needed to talk. And yes, it is even for taking out the trash. We believe that if we are grateful for the little things in life, that we are then in a better position to receive bigger things.
